YEAR
5
Term
1
2009 is shaping up to be an exciting and activity-packed year. This is what we’ve covered so far:
During this term we travelled back through Australian history books to learn about the lives of bushrangers. We created our own fictitious bushranger and presented his life story in a project. We worked hard to present our projects in creative ways. Here is an example.
SCIENCE
In science we’ve been looking at a unit called “Spinning in Space” and learning all about the shape and sizes of the Sun, Moon and Earth through scale down models. We are currently finding out about shadows and how they are formed. These are some examples of the art activities we did as part of our science unit.
ART
We are budding artists in Year Five and during term one we have created several pieces of art work of which we are very proud. We have done collage, looked at cubism, symmetry and movement in space.
Term
2
In term two we are planning to study the Media with special emphasis on advertising. We’ll be looking at a variety of persuasive advertisements on television, in magazines, on the radio and in newspapers. We will be creating our own advertisements and presenting them to our class.
Stay tuned to learn how they turned out.
Term
3
During Term Three we will be looking at a unit called Mateship. The unit is designed to develop and foster teamwork and mateship as displayed by the Anzacs. Students will investigate, discuss, perform and demonstrate their knowledge and skill of co-operation and mateship. The unit will culminate with the two day camp at Emu Gully.
Term
4
Term Four will have us travelling to different countries as we explore a unit titled, Multiculturalism. We will explore different cultures and how they are represented in Australia. We will read stories from these countries, sample some of their foods and learn about their traditions.
